Seven seats are filled, the betting window closes, and before the dealer’s hand reaches the shoe a number appears on screen: 12x. Nobody at the table knows yet whether it will matter. Then the cards come out, and one seat turns over an ace and a queen.
That is the whole mechanic of Blackjack Bonus Live, the feature ICONIC21 added to its seven-seat live blackjack table on 8 October. An optional side bet, a random multiplier revealed to everyone before the deal, and a payout that lands only if your first two cards make a natural blackjack. The headline number is up to 100x. The useful number is 4.75%, and that is where this article spends most of its time.
What ICONIC21 actually added
The release does not change the core game. It is still the same seven-seat live blackjack product with a human dealer; the Bonus Live element sits alongside the main wager as a separate, optional bet. Players place it before cards are dealt. Once betting closes, a randomly selected multiplier is shown to all participants at the table, and it applies to that round only. If your opening two cards are a natural blackjack, the side bet pays at that multiplier.
ICONIC21’s chief product officer, Edvardas Sadovskis, framed the feature as a way to build anticipation around the natural blackjack itself, which is a fair description of what the design does. In standard blackjack a natural is a small, quiet win at 3:2. Here it becomes the single event the whole table is watching for, with a number attached to it before anyone has seen a card.
Two details are worth pinning down because they shape everything else:
- The multiplier is shared. It is revealed to all players, not generated per seat.
- The reveal happens after betting closes. You commit your stake blind, then learn the multiplier. You cannot size your bet to the number.
That second point is the difference between a genuine decision and a presentation flourish. Because you never get to act on the multiplier, the side bet’s value over time comes down entirely to one thing: the average multiplier the game awards versus the odds of catching a natural.
How often you actually get a natural blackjack
A natural requires an ace paired with any ten-value card, in either order. With a standard shoe the probability sits just under 4.75%:
- Eight decks: 2 × (32/416) × (128/415) ≈ 4.745%
- Six decks: ≈ 4.749%
- Single deck: ≈ 4.83%
Round it to one natural every 21 hands on average. That is the long-run figure from a fresh shoe; it does not mean you will see one in the next 21 hands, and a dry run of 60 or 80 hands is entirely normal. Each deal is independent of the last, so “I’m due a natural” has no mathematical content.
Twenty-one hands is also the number that tells you how the paytable has to behave.
The breakeven multiplier is about 21x, not 100x
Take the simplest reading of the bet: it pays the revealed multiplier times your stake on a natural and loses the stake otherwise. The return on the side bet is then just probability × average multiplier. At 4.745%, the multiplier that returns exactly 100% is 1 ÷ 0.04745 ≈ 21.1x.
Every operator-offered side bet keeps a house edge, so the average multiplier across thousands of rounds has to sit meaningfully below that figure. Here is what different averages would produce:
| Average multiplier awarded | Return on side bet | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| 5x | 23.7% | 76.3% |
| 10x | 47.5% | 52.5% |
| 15x | 71.2% | 28.8% |
| 18x | 85.4% | 14.6% |
| 20x | 94.9% | 5.1% |
| 21.1x | 100% | 0% |
Read that table the right way round. It does not tell you ICONIC21’s house edge, because the distribution of multipliers has not been published in the launch material. What it tells you is that a 100x multiplier can only be a rare tail event. If 100x showed up even one round in twenty, the average would blow past breakeven and the bet would be unofferable. The arithmetic forces the common reveals to be low, which is exactly how these multiplier formats are built.
Before you play, check two things in the game’s own rules panel: whether the multiplier is quoted as a to-1 payout or a total return including stake, and what the full range and frequency of multipliers is. Those two lines decide whether the bet is in the same neighbourhood as a conventional blackjack side bet or considerably worse. The rules screen is the only source that counts, not the marketing line.
What the side bet does not change
Your main-bet strategy. Nothing about a multiplier on naturals should alter how you hit, stand, double or split, because a natural resolves immediately and never reaches a decision point. Basic strategy for the table’s own rule set stays the correct play.
The main bet’s house edge also stays where it was. Live blackjack with a decent rule set and accurate basic strategy typically runs a house edge well under 1%, which is among the lowest on a casino floor. Side bets, as a category, carry house edges several times that, often by an order of magnitude. Mixing a low-edge main bet with a high-edge side bet raises your overall cost per hand, and the more of your total stake sits on the side bet, the closer your effective edge drifts toward the side bet’s.
Which is not an argument against ever placing it. It is an argument for knowing which of the two bets on the felt is the cheap one.
Why the format keeps appearing
Multiplier reveals have become one of the most reliable tools in live casino design, and the reason is behavioural rather than mathematical. A shared number on screen gives a seven-seat table a common focal point every round, turns dead time during the deal into suspense, and attaches a visible ceiling, 100x here, to an outcome players already recognise. It also gives operators a second bet per hand without touching the rules of the base game, which keeps blackjack purists at the table while opening a higher-variance option for everyone else.
For ICONIC21 the release reads as a straightforward extension of an existing seven-seat product rather than a new table from scratch, which is a sensible way to refresh a core game that live-casino players already know how to play.
If you plan to try it
Treat the side bet as a high-variance add-on with a cost attached, and size it accordingly, a small fraction of your main stake rather than a match to it. Expect long stretches with no natural, because the odds say roughly one in 21 hands. Read the paytable before your first round, not after a losing streak. And set a deposit or loss limit before you sit down; every licensed live casino offers those tools, and they are more useful than any betting pattern.
The honest summary: 100x is real, rare by mathematical necessity, and the number to judge this bet by is the average multiplier the game pays, not the biggest one it can show you. Gambling carries a built-in house edge and should be treated as entertainment you can afford to lose. If it stops feeling that way, use the self-exclusion and cool-off tools, or contact a support service in your jurisdiction. Players must be of legal gambling age.
